It’s our daily habits—or “rituals,” as I like to call them—that create our wellness. What we do every day matters so much more than the occasional big effort. That’s why I don’t do New Year’s resolutions. They always feel like a lot of pressure, don’t they? Instead, I like to focus on a New Year Reset—a chance to get centered, refocus, and bring balance back into my life. Reset. Realign. Restart!

This reset isn’t about big, sweeping changes; it’s about small, intentional rituals that help me feel grounded and ready to take on the year ahead. From an Ayurvedic perspective, the new year is a perfect time to pause, reflect, and realign with practices that nourish your body, mind, and spirit.

Here are a few of my favorite self-care rituals to reset and recharge:

1. Mini Digestive Reset (3 Days)

After the indulgences of the holiday season, I like to give my digestion a little love. My go-to? A simple three-day kitchari cleanse.

Kitchari is a traditional Ayurvedic dish made with rice, lentils, and warming spices like turmeric, cumin, and ginger. It’s easy to digest, nourishing, and helps reset your digestive system without feeling deprived. During the cleanse, I keep my meals simple with kitchari, warm water, and herbal teas to support hydration and detoxification.

Why it works: A digestive reset helps your body feel lighter, more energized, and ready to take on the new year.

2. Daily Pilates or Movement (Even Just 30 Minutes)

Movement is non-negotiable for me, even if it’s just 30 minutes a day. Pilates is my go-to because it’s not just about physical strength—it’s about connecting with your body, improving alignment, and moving with intention.

Whether it’s a full workout or a few simple stretches, daily movement helps me feel more centered and energized. Plus, it’s a great way to shake off stress and start the day on the right foot.

Why it works: Consistent movement supports circulation, boosts mood, and helps you feel more connected to your body.

3. Journaling to Get Focused

There’s something so powerful about putting pen to paper. Journaling is my favorite way to clear mental clutter, set priorities, and get focused on what really matters.

I like to start with simple prompts like:

  • What am I grateful for today?
  • What are my top three priorities this week?
  • How do I want to feel this year?

Even just 5-10 minutes of journaling can help you feel more grounded and intentional.

Why it works: Journaling helps you clarify your thoughts, set meaningful goals, and create a sense of purpose.

4. Just Breathe

This one might seem simple, but it’s often the most overlooked. Taking a few moments to focus on your breath can completely shift your energy and mindset.

In fact, we start every Pilates class with deep diaphragmatic breathing—a practice that calms the nervous system, improves focus, and helps you connect with your body. It’s a small ritual with a big impact, and it’s something you can do anytime, anywhere.

If you’re new to this practice, I’ve created a short video to guide you through it. It’s the first in a series of self-care rituals I’ll be sharing this year, and I’d love for you to check it out!

How to Get Started with Your Reset

Feeling inspired but not sure where to begin? Here’s how to ease into your New Year Reset:

  1. Start Small: Pick one or two rituals to focus on this week. Maybe it’s a three-day kitchari cleanse or committing to 30 minutes of movement each day.
  2. Set the Tone: Create a calming environment for your reset. Light a candle, play soft music, or set aside a quiet space for journaling and breathing.
  3. Be Consistent: The magic is in the consistency. Even small, daily actions can create big shifts over time.
  4. Listen to Your Body: This is your reset, so make it work for you. Adjust as needed and focus on what feels nourishing and supportive.

Ready to Reset?

The new year doesn’t have to be about resolutions or big changes. Sometimes, the most powerful shifts come from small, consistent rituals that bring balance and joy into your life.

If you’re ready to dive deeper into self-care, I’d love to help. Whether it’s through Pilates, Ayurvedic practices, or simply learning to breathe more deeply, there’s no better time to start than now.
